Welcome to Both Sides of Twilight
Hello, and welcome to this space where consciousness, nature, and sound converge.
I'm Matthew, though you might know my music as Khoma Brut — cryptic psychedelic folk that explores the liminal spaces between traditional and experimental, acoustic and electric, the mystical and the grounded.
What you'll find here
Poetry that emerged from walks through New Mexico's high desert and listening deeply. Music insights from years of teaching and performing, breaking down the theory behind classic albums. Creative process documentation as I build a live performance system with drum machines, loopers, and effects — turning solo acoustic songs into full-band experiences.
Every Friday from 5-7pm GMT-7, I stream live from my home studio, weaving improvised soundscapes with original songs and carefully chosen covers. It’s where the technical meets the transcendent, unless my equipment fails. Then it’s where technical is met with frustration. I use traditional folk and rock instrumentation, guitars and keyboards, with psychedelic effects and experimental looping.
The space between
"Both Sides of Twilight" represents threshold moments — between day and night, consciousness and dream, and the known and the mysterious. It's where my work lives: rooted in folk tradition but reaching towards psychedelic experience, a combination of the ecstatic and terror.
I'm documenting this journey not as a finished artist but as someone perpetually exploring, always curious about the next sound, the next insight, and the next way to bridge the gap between heart and mind, ancient wisdom and modern technology.
What's coming
Weekly posts that might include:
Poetry paired with the stories behind the songs
Music theory insights that illuminate rather than complicate
Behind-the-scenes glimpses of building something new
Reflections on consciousness, creativity, and the natural world
This isn't about perfection — it's about authentic exploration and the connections we make along the way.
Thank you for being here.
P.S. — If you're curious about the live streams, you can find them every Friday evening. Come as you are, stay as long as you like, and bring whatever questions arise.
